PSA Video Project

To promote the Greenhound Academy and the importance of alternative energy and concern for the environment, a number of PSAs are to be created. Your production company is to use as a guideline, a Green PSA Production Request Form, developed by a Greenhound team, to produce a 30 and 60 second PSAs both as video and as 320 X 180 Quicktime movies. Selected PSAs will be podcast on the AHS website. The PSAs are to communicate the message described in the Production Request and end with the Greenhound logo and a voice-over stating, “This concern for developing alternative energy and the environment is sponsored by the Greenhound Academy at Atascadero High School.” Project Sheet

Historical "Green" PSAs

There have been a number of famous PSAs with an environmentally concerned theme including the famous "Crying Indian" and the Smokey The Bear Campagin.

Crying Indian

This is the quintessential classic public service announcement from the early 70s that brought widespread attention not only to eco-conservation but to crying Indians as well. This PSA that won two Cilo Awards, was created by the Ad Council. The idea for the Ad Council was born in November 1941. Days later, with the entry of the U.S. into World War II, they were christened The War Advertising Council and soon created a campaign to sell War Bonds. More than sixty years and hundreds of campaigns later, the Ad Council remains America's leading producer of public service communications.

Smokey the Bear

An even earlier PSA concerned with the enviroment and its presentation are the "Smokey the Bear" fire prevention PSAs.

The longest running campaign in Ad Council history Smokey Bear and his famous warning "Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires" was introduced to Americans in 1944. TV PSAs were begun in the 1960s. For further information about the Smokey Bear Campaign see this website. http://www.smokeybear.com/

The ads have been distributed virally all over the Web flaunting the equal-airtime clause in regulations governing political campaigning in the U.K. Watch one and you can see why. They're effective propaganda that you can watch more than once.
